Street Mustang resets quarter-mile record

The 2018 Mustang is out so that means drivers are looking to push the envelope of the car’s capabilities. MAK Performance says the record has been set at 10.80 seconds at 134 mph for the quarter mile.

Terry “Beefcake” Reeves previously held the record with a nitrous-injected 10.89/129. The 2018 MAK Mustang was powered by a ProCharger P-1X.

“The only thing we have changed has been the addition of the JMS fuel pump booster and a Ford iron Super 8.8 housing with 3.73 gears and a Torsen differential,” Willie Diaz of MAK Performance explained.

“We have been twice to the track already and we have steadily improved on both e.t. and mph,” Diaz said. “We know with some more work on the tune, especially the transmission aspect, that we will be able to run a 10.60 with that top speed. But, of course, that is not our benchmark. It is simply the next step.”

Sydney Dragway adds Pro Slammers to January Summer Thunder

Ben Bray was the 2017 Pro Slammer winner at Sydney’s Summer Thunder. (Southern hemisphere, remember.)

After the loss of the 400 Thunder Australian Professional Drag Racing Series championship round due to be run at Calder Park in January, Sydney Dragway (www.sydneydragway.com.au) will now host Round 4 of the 2017-18 Pro Slammer Championship at the Santo’s Summer Thunder on Jan. 19-20, 2018.

“Pro Slammer put on an excellent show in Sydney at the ACDelco East Coast Thunder, despite the wet weather, and we know that the category is a fan favourite,” Sydney Dragway General Manager Peter Beaumont said. “The addition of Pro Slammer to the Santo’s Summer Thunder adds another element of excitement, and with the ‘All Run Format’ I’m sure that the racing will be excellent come January.”

In addition to Pro Slammer, the event will see Round 3 of the Top Fuel and Top Bike Championships and Round 2 of the Pro Alcohol title chase, all running under the All Run format.

ManCup will not require 1% backup for records in 2018

Tak Shigematsu of Japan is leading the way into a new era of Top Fuel Harley racing with his supercharged creation. Will he be first in the 5's in 2018?

Jay Regan of the Man Cup series has announced that in 2018 the Man Cup sanction will be following the NHRA lead of not requiring a 1% back up of record runs, DRO Motorcycle Editor Tom McCarthy reports.

Both the Man Cup leadership and NHRA Tech department feel that with new-era technology, it’s rock solid to look at relevant data from a run, compare it to the time slip of record, and if the numbers dove-tale with the run data, then the run will stand as an official record. A “Tech Department review” and post-run Tech rules still apply, but the 1% rule will not be in effect in 2018.
