Andy found a great place to mount the 1.5 quart Moroso Accumulator. Next to the fuel cell and tucked out of the way.

This is the Canton Race Product adapter that allows the Accumulator to pump oil directly into the oil galleys when needed.

We chose the 4-vane Moroso vacuum pump. We use the larger of the two available crank pulleys due to our lower engine speeds (under 7200).

Andy made the run and in the shut down the pressure started to drop from about 75 psi to about 40 and then it slowly went up to about 60 and got steady around 40 before he got slowed down and it went back up to about 65-75 psi. The Accumulator worked exactly like it was supposed to. No more “zero” oil pressure run after run and no more “dry starts” after the car sits around for a week or more because we can “prime” the oil system with the Accumulator.

A couple tips we can share with you is at the end of the day when your oil is hot and idle pressure is lower due to hot oil we rev the engine up to 2,000 rpm or so to get 70-80 psi and then turn the Accumulator switch off to “lock it in” so you can use that pressure when the car is restarted for the next event. The next tip we have is this. When it is time to change oil, we change the oil after an event while the oil is hot. We turn the ignition switch on and flip the Accumulator switch on and let it dump the oil in the Accumulator into the engine so it can be drained. Once the oil is changed I start the engine, check for leaks and after a few seconds the Accumulator is filled with fresh oil. Once that is done you can switch the ignition off and the Accumulator is ready to “prime” your oil system the next time you start the car.

The Accumulator can be disassembled for cleaning in case you damage an engine and metal debris gets into the oil system. If this happens all it takes is a large snap-ring tool and some solvent to clean it out. You DO NOT want to prime your freshened engine with oil from the one you blew up so if you get debris in the oil, take the Accumulator apart and clean it up. There is also a rebuild kit available if the sealing rings get scored or wear out.

That covers how we use the Moroso Accumulator. There is a manual valve that can be used in certain applications and that valve comes with the Accumulator. If you are having oil pressure troubles take a serious look at the Moroso Accumulator as a way to KEEP THE PRESSURE ON…..
