I have a PG with a brake in SG.  I broke the gears in the pump after about 70 runs.  Can a stuck priming valve in the pump cause the problem?  Any other ideas?  I just replaced the gear set with new steel ones.

There are quite a few different things to check out here. There aren’t a lot of choices in pump gears these days. The aftermarket gears we use, we Rockwell test for hardness and consistency before we use them. We also check for the .002 fit we like. Any misalignment will cause gear breakage that means converter neck, crank, pilot, and flexplate issues. The priming valve in the powerglide is not needed at all, as we pull them, tap the pump ¼ pipe and plug it.
