One interesting little side note about Aaron’s win is that he decided to leave his 2001 Gebhardt 4-link dragster at home!! What? That’s right, he felt more confident with the tried and true Nova. He credited his win to the help and support of a few people but mainly John Kyle (who won this $50,000.00 race a few years ago) and his company APD for a great alcohol carburetor and transmission. He also said I should stop by his pit area. He wanted everyone to know he isn’t some spoiled kid who tows around in a new diesel coach with a stacker trailer. When I stopped over there it was refreshing to see that he had an old motorhome and a well used enclosed trailer instead of some 50ft "Taj Mahal" stacker rig full of race cars and engines. At the tender age of 28 I think we will be hearing more from the "young lions of bracket racing" like Aaron McCaulla, Luke Bogaki, Stephen Hughes, Tim Cmar, Scott Labudde and dozens of others who are committed to excellence and are achieving it. The final day of the event was a $5,000.00 to win race and one of my best buddies, Bruce Kaul put his Nelson Racecaft (Mopar powered of course) into the finals against Kenny Underwood of Sarasota, Florida. Bruce got just an itsy-bitsy little too anxious and went .499 red! Ouch! Like he always tells me though. "If you ever quit driving aggressive you are probably done winning". Tough break Bruce, but we’ll see ya in Hot Rod next weekend with his legendary blue GTX. Mary Jo, Jeff, Mike and the entire crew at Mid-Michigan Motorplex ran a great race. The heat was stifling at times but the track crew kept the track in great shape and that contributed to the close racing. I can’t wait to go back next summer and give it another shot. Now for some much anticipated "real vacation" for a few days. We are sitting in the camper looking over Lake Huron as I finish this article. Talk about a nice relaxing place... this is it. The Mackinaw Island is super nice and very relaxing. A great place to let the "brain rest" for a while. "Project 4-Link" is still sitting at Mid-Michigan Motorplex under the watchful eye of friends Mike and Tami Eggleston. Thanks guys, I appreciate you keeping an eye on it so we didn’t have to bring it up here with us. That wraps up this edition and we are off to some more "tourist traps". Have a safe week and we will report from the Northern Nationals in a few days.
