Mike,
I have an early style 400 drum that I can use the 34 element sprag on, my problem is that it needs a new inner race installed. It is the lower step drum for the six clutches and I don't want to lose it in a trade out drum. Any ideas to where I can get a race for this drum?
Thanks,
Justen West
Justen,
On that early 400 drum, the race is pressed onto the drum. It sounds a little brutal, but you can spread the old race with a chisel to get it off. Then we have new races that we can install on that drum to make it good as new.
Thanks, Mike.
Hey Mike
I've been building trannys for 37 years. Is there any way to set the governor up for 65-68rpm shifts with out changing weights 100 times? It's in a sand dragging 2450lb jeep with 5000 stall and a honest 700hp small block. I have the B&M shift kit, no modulator, kick down valve blocked all the way in and 5.38 gears with 33in paddle tires. It's a roller TH350 trans and want to save some head aches when I install it. I'm taking out the 700r4 due to, too much low gear and slow 60ft times. Is there any governor combo out there from a stock low geared car that would work? Thanks for any help in advance

Steve,
Sorry, but there is no easy answer here. There are so many variables that it is really hard to set up an automatic shift without at least a couple of stabs at it. Sometimes on the 700 we can use a new governor from GM that we call the 117, which usually shifts around 5000 – 5200 out of the box, but usually we use an aftermarket governor kit and, after a few adjustments, can get what we want.
Thanks, Mike.
