Hi Mike,

I am looking for some information about the life expectancy of components within your transmissions.  The application is a 2000lb dragster with a blown alcohol 560 BBC that is so far running 6.9`s, though in the upcoming season we hope to drop off another 2/10.

What transmission would you recommend for this car-bigshaft or vasco?
-how long between freshens?
-how long would the pump last?
-how long do the gear sets last?

The reason for all the questions is that over the last 3 seasons we have developed our glide to become reliable, but now during our winter freshen we find our 80 run ATI straight cut gearset has worn through the hardening! It has got to the stage where we are looking to upgrade to a complete aftermarket trans in the hope of reducing maintenance costs. I see p/g advertised as being able to cope with lots of horsepower but no info as to longevity.
Please help.

Jim,

The questions that you ask about durability and longevity are as varied as the cars that they could be in. But let’s take your car for example: a 2000 lb car running 6.5 to 6.6 ET. From past experience with my own 2000 lb dragster in the ’97-’99 seasons, we ran our Monster Glide all season with no failures. We freshened it up each winter and had the same gear set for three years. We ran 6.30s and 6.40s winning the Top Eliminator championship all three years. We try to set up these units to last a season, but longevity really depends on temperature, whether fluid is serviced regularly, the type of fluid used, and the way the car is used. A Monster Glide should work well in your application.

Thanks, Mike.
