EZ-Roll lifters are a simple drop-in replacement for a standard Chevy .842” lifter bore. Other lifter diameters are available. There was one thing that was different that I need to mention. I actually read the instructions and they say, “Do not soak or wash the lifter in solvent as it will remove the high-grade lube that Isky used when assembling the lifter. It is NOT necessary to soak the lifter in oil before installing the lifter.”
| This is one of the used lifters I removed. I was very lucky to check these at 131 runs. One of the lifters is beginning to fail. The wheel turns and you can feel the roughness when turning it over against your finger. The outside of the lifter shows very little scuffing but the bearing was on its way out. It isn't a scientific way to check lifters but it was about to fail and that could have been very expensive to fix. Without needle bearings, I can see the Isky EZ-Roll as a great addition to my engine program. | ![]() |
Okay, that’s different. I was used to washing them to a perfectly clean state, soaking them in oil for 20 or 30 minutes hoping oil would get into all the needle-bearings and I wouldn’t damage a new lifter on startup.
With the Isky EZ-Rolls, simply wipe the lifter off, blow the lint off with some compressed air and wipe the lifter body and wheel down with your favorite motor oil before assembling. Since there are no needle bearings the worries of the past are gone.
I got to thinking about race engines and I concluded that since everything can and probably will eventually fail, what happens if the EZ-Roll lifter starts to fail? A quick call to Richard Iskenderian at Isky Racing Cams and he answered the question. If the solid bearing fails, it could be lack of lubrication or other debris in the oil, and the most that will happen is valve lash will open up and then you can tell the lifter is failing. You will be able to spot this early on by checking your valve lash and looking for one that is looser than the others and possibly will be loose again the next time you check valve lash. One thing for sure, no more worrying about when to change out a $400 set of needle-bearing roller lifters; I am done with that system. The EZ-Roll lifters can be rebuilt by Isky should you need that service.
EZ-Roll lifters from Isky Cams will eliminate the chances of scattering needles though my race engine and it was a simple installation. Thanks to Isky Cams for coming up with a great answer to a common problem.
