Jeff, after being a racer since the late ‘50s I understand your frustration. There are many, many things that need to be fixed in NHRA racing but the idiots that run the association have only one thing they care about - MONEY.
Unfortunately we have all seen many of our friends injured or killed in this sport, and because of that the sport made a change. They have NEVER been proactive. Also, the car owners don't seem to think there is a problem as they continue to race. I guess they think “IT CAN'T HAPPEN TO ME.” BS, it certainly can.
Please don't give up on your crusade, we need people like you, that have a forum, to continue your efforts - even if it seems it is in vain. It can't be. At the last race the Pro Stock cars should have refused to race but you can't get them all to agree on anything.
I pray that some day I will see a race where there is a bad track and the racers stand up and say “No, we are not going to race.”
I don't know how many times I have heard from fellow racers: IF THERE WAS SOME OTHER PLACE TO RACE BESIDE NHRA WE WOULD DO IT. Unfortunately NHRA knows that so they do what they want - not what’s best for the racer.
Keep it up, you are needed.
Thanks for all your efforts.

Unfortunately, you are absolutely correct. You can not cure stupid. You were so right that it is sickening. You have a near perfect solution, and certainly a good place to start getting back to reality, but no one wants to give up their advantage. And we sure would not want to try to be safer and more reasonable with expense. Go figure.
My question is; where can I go now and get some logical, interesting perspective on these issues?

Well Burkster... I could say welcome to my world, but no I won't. I say to hell with folks’ toes when something needs to be addressed. Sounds to me like they're not man enough to take constructive criticism or perhaps just too damned greedy for the dollar like our current crop of bug feces eating politicians. Too bad the old witches from D.C. couldn't have joined Kennedy.
By the way, I will be the big guy at KCIR with my Larry Morgan Racing t-shirt with PowerAde on the back collar area and great big green letters that simply say "CAN'T FIX STUPID!"

Jeff Burk, I am flabbergasted by your latest column. I enjoy your wit & wisdom, BUT PLEASE.... Never say never. You may have saved a life(s) and not be aware. Doesn't matter. You have a platform most of us never will. Remember your Dad's (or Mom's) sticks and stones rant?
But I felt your heartache and sadness. Get over it and speak out again when YOU see fit. Thanks.
