Memo to NHRA:
Drag racing is a great sport... raw, visceral, one-on-one, last gunfighter standing, fan-friendly and international. You, NHRA, are ruining this wonderful phenomenon with an overpriced and poorly planned traveling circus agenda that most participants and spectators alike can neither follow nor afford. You are paying obscene amounts of money to a TV network which produces a primetime show which is probably the worst piece of crap ever presented on the air. It needs a complete, that's a COMPLETE makeover. It's bad, REALLY BAD and an embarrassment to the sport itself and to YOU.

If you can't put on something better than what is being presented now, everyone associated with the TV show effort should be fired and the whole damn thing can just be replaced by minor league full contact ballerina bass fishing or something else that is at least somewhat interesting. I've screamed at my TV that it sucks way more than I should, but the shows keep getting worse. Whoever decided that "sounds of the strip" is compelling TV needs to get a job in a library. Commentary by people who have a clue and/or can speak in correct English would be a nice touch. I've seen more human interest stories in a goldfish bowl. CHANGE, produce something worthwhile, or just go away.

Your disenchanted fans are already doing just that.

For the record, Bob, we would watch minor league full contact ballerina bass fishing religiously.

Pure and simple

Jeff, the attraction of "Pinks" is street racing, pure and simple. Good old fashioned, title for title street racing, just better and safer racing conditions!

So long, NHRA

After 23 years, I'm letting my NHRA membership go. I've been member 113595 since the ‘86 Summernationals. I used to go to all four days of the Summers (when they still ran a nitro session Thursday afternoon) and got involved with racing in a big way in the ‘90s helping out on Brent and Vicky Fanning's AA/FC. Quite simply the reason I'm giving up is the NHRA doesn't have the same vision anymore as you have pointed out. I will probably still go to the national event at Englishtown. (It is the closest nitro to home.) But I have much more fun attending smaller, local events like the extreme 275 series at Atco or just some 8.50 index races at Englishtown (wheels up action!) or the NMRA races.

I miss the old days, but as I'm sure you know, nothing is forever. Heck, we don't even have a dragstrip on Long Island anymore. That's a whole other story though. Keep up the good work.
