The fans are boycotting because of shortened racing in 2 NHRA classes

There's another reason for all those empty seats. Remember, the economy sucked for extended recessionary periods in the '70s and the '80s and the '90s, too, without seriously impacting national-event attendance. NHRA sure picked a fine time to go to 1000 feet, inspiring the unofficial, unorganized "boycott" of fans who won't return until the quarter-mile does (if ever). I still see many of these fuel-car fans at the drags, sure; the NOSTALGIA drags!

I fear that 1000-foot racing will be the final nail in NHRA's coffin. Another season of this nonsense at the majority of long, safe tracks should do it.

Building sandcastles?

See you at the Jersey Shore the weekend of June 12-15. Normally we would use the money for our six tickets at E-town, but 1000 foot racing (Zzzzz) cost NHRA & E-town six tickets-food & souvenirs. Maybe I will mail a Jersey shore postcard to NHRA. Drag Racing should be 1320 feet!

Forcing the issue

(RE: Michael Knight column)

Yes, a little too much Force. I love the guy, but it’s getting silly. Sometimes it looks like even he’s having a hard time coming up with something new to say.

And could we have some Pro Stock reporting? I know for ESPN2 it’s a nitro show. I feel the day is coming when they will drop P/S from the show or just highlight it. So while P/S is on track, please don’t go to the Nitro pits. Anything new going on in the P/S pits? Engine change? Fight? Anything?

This coverage left with Diamond P and TNN. Boy I miss Steve Evans and those great TNN races. Would it be possible to sell a sportsman show? (Stock, S/Stock, S/Gas, etc) to ESPN3 or ESPN4 or ESPN CLASSICS or SPEED or Outdoor or VS or anybody to run at 3:00 A.M. I don’t care. We will take anything!

Do they care what the fans want?

I think the NHRA should allow the Pro Mod class to become a part of the program. There are a lot of drag racing enthusiasts that love the Pro Mod class just as much as they love the pro classes, and would like some of the national attention also. What's the reason why they wouldn't allow them to become a part of the program?

I myself am a drag racing lover and currently working on a Pro Mod that my sons and I will be operating and eventually one of them will be doing the driving. Does the NHRA think it will be too much money spent on the class? The drivers and owners already have to spend their own money in the sport, so what's the problem?

I pretty much guarantee that more money will be made by the NHRA, because you'll have more people attending the races, because that's more money at the gate and more at memorabilia shops and food vendors. So give us a chance and you won't regret a penny.
