They’ve been rooked

So, Agent, RE: 'Scelzi Says: Who's a rookie?'

You [and Gary S] would prefer a person with no car experience climb into a nitro Top Fuel car? That's my perception by what I'm hearing on ESPN2 and reading here. Scary.

MLB is a good example. There is a farm system to grow their own before bringing them up to the majors. Not dissimilar to what NHRA does through its Sportsman system. Not familiar with IHRA, but assume the same is true.

Not in the best interest of the sport with national TV coverage to risk a horrific accident by allowing an un-experienced driver to drive a handful of car.

Yeah, to me, they are all 'rookies' in Top Fuel.

No, AC, we do not prefer that a person with no car experience drive a Top Fueler. We are saying that some of these drivers that NHRA refers to as “rookies” are experienced drivers with other sanctioning bodies. They are not “rookie” drivers; they are just new to NHRA.

ESPN and the NHRA: The truth

Why aren’t final eliminations shown live?

Basically, it's correct, viewers don't want to watch endless interviews or track clean ups during downtimes. I remember back when I used to watch baseball, during rain delays they would often show previous games, sometimes historical ones. There may be copyright issues to deal with (but baseball had to deal with it also), but annual Diamond P videos, Decade of Thrills one & two, Fabulous Floppers one & two, and so forth could be shown. Documentaries of a racers rise or career with racing would do nicely.

Racing delays with racing footage I think would go a long way. Thanks.

He’s been ‘Knighted’

Just dropping a line to say "good job". I'm a regular reader, and have to admit I tend to check the same places each time. Agent 1320, Burk’s Blast, and Jok... But I clicked on the Business of Racing [Michael Knight’s All Business column] about the TV coverage today and thought it was a great read. Plan on checking it again next month.

So thanks for the quality material.
