Status Quo is Okay

Re: Spec nitro engines for 1/4 mile use –

Sorry, but this is the dumbest thing I've ever heard. You mentioned mid 5s (maybe low 5s?). So, now the Alcohol cars will become the quickest class???

The car owners may have to spend huge money to build new cars because the dynamics of drastically reduced horsepower will react totally differently on the chassis?

And how do they explain to their sponsors that they will now run so much slower?

I must admit that I didn't like the idea of racing to only 1,000 feet, but once I saw it (at Seattle), I was pleasantly surprised. They should leave things as they are.

My opinion, for what it’s worth.

A step in the right direction

I was interested to read about the nitro spec engine. I think if true this is a giant step in the right direction. I am not sure that the reduction in displacement is needed. The downsized pumps and blowers, plus one mag should be enough. I would think this will lead to longer parts life and lower cost. If they can run near 5 flat around 280 mph on the 1/4 mile, that should make for good racing.

What is missing now, is the 1,000-foot charge, where one car ran down the other and won the race in the last 300 feet, now days it’s all over at 60 foot.

I would think there are a lot of existing parts out there that could be used on the new combo. It should open the door for more teams. I hope this will work out and lower cost... increase safety and add more cars to field, and allow us to return to 1/4 mile drag racing.
