Chris Martin hit the nail on the head. So why doesn't drag racing change to survive? I have seen so many good ideas on how things could change. Two-day national events (with night racing in the summer). Switch from nitro to alky. Make a national event like the ADRL, with a bunch of heads up classes. Separate series for sportsmen races with free admission to spectators. Divide the country into East and West, and let racers race for an Eastern Championship or a Western Championship, with twelve races for each series. I could go on, but you get the idea. So why doesn't someone do these things?

At 50 years old, I am a life long drag racing fan and worked as crew on alcohol dragsters and funny cars years ago.
In July 2008, I attended the NHRA Northwest Nationals in Seattle, which was a 500-mile round trip from Canada. For Saturday qualifying it took 1.5 hours to get in to the track and two hours to get out of the track at the end of the day. While in the stands, the constant advertising between runs was repetitive and irritating.
Although the event tickets and hotel rooms were purchased in advance for the entire weekend, for the Sunday finals we chose instead to attend a local air show, as we were not prepared to go through another day like Saturday at any cost.
The $1,200.00 NHRA weekend was a bust. NEVER AGAIN!

All Tooned Up is right on point! Compton and company only care about how much they can put in their pockets, not about the racers, sponsors, or the fans.

Agent 1320: Why is it a sad day at NHRA? Across this entire country people are being laid off and taking pay cuts. Why should NHRA employees be exempt?
I usually don't have a good world to say about NHRA and its management staff, but I do agree with this move. They need to feel the same pain as the customers and racers.
It is also very encouraging to see that management is taking the same cut and maybe more.
Now maybe NHRA will make some serious changes to their entry fees, admission and payouts. I think maybe some of the new competition may be cutting into their profit.
Now if we could only get government at all levels to cut salaries
