There's not a drag strip in the world that has such a feeling of the ‘60s and ‘70s as Famoso Raceway. The sweet aroma that hits you when you open the door after the long drive from Orange County. We had the most unbelievable time this year. I brought my father-in-law David Ainsworth, who has been battling cancer (and seems to be kicking its ass). He was overwhelmed with emotion a couple of times, but we laughed so hard that we couldn't breath more often than that.
I brought my seven-year-old son Wyatt for the first time. He's been begging to go since four. We hooked up with a couple of my friends, Matty B. and Billy Shaw, that decided to go on Friday night. Matt has a motor home that they parked by the sand trap. They were great, especially after the cackle fest, helping David over the fence to walk the track.
Sunday races were awesome! My friend Rick McGee won top fuel over some heavy hitters, great job Rick, Darrell, T.J., Brian, Melvin and Gary.
I want to thank Darr Hawthorne from DRO for the passes and AAA for the golf cart passes. The weekend would not have been possible without your help.

Burk: Angelle Sampey gets a ride???
Give us a break; her reaction times during the last several years where like watching paint dry. She started out borderline cute, not a CAL 6 good, reaction times-were good.
However, in her defense it is unfortunate that female participants appear to need more than talent to survive; dollars will always win this contest. Vogue, Tide, and even companies run by female CEOs do not appear to need drag racing, with or without females.
“When will a major sponsor step up and back a nostalgia series?” Did you notice the prep time at Famoso this weekend? No sponsor is going to wait hours for that kind of activity.
What is with the gallons of stick-em? That’s hardly nostalgia. And did you watch the onsite stream on the web? Painful, even with two screens that was boring, and talk about empty stands on Sunday. Saturday it was shoulder to shoulder when we were there, plus 90 degrees. Help them with an answer to keep this thing going.
