Smaller engines will mean slower cars

Short and to the point. Y'wanna slow 'em down? Take 100 cubic inches out!

They can race an eighth, they can race 1000', a quarter mile or five miles, and use Ingersol Rand 1000 cfm compressors for blowers, and 100% Nitro. 100 cubes less, they're slowed down!

Annnd, Jeffery (yer mom called you that when she had a reprimand coming in your direction, huh?) asking for 1000' records to be established is just fanning the flames. How long will it take for the Alan Johnsons and Lee Beards of the world to have 'em back up and running 330 mph in the 1000? In less time than it took to start racing 1000', that's how long!

Nip it...don't go there!

Annnd, just for the record, Burk’s first name is not Jeffery.

Taking a dim view of NHRA

Just wondering... when will NHRA/Graham (Dim) Light take some responsibility for the problem and spend some of their "non-profit" money on making the tracks safer, longer, and better for the safer, faster, better race cars of today? They are racing on the same tracks I did in the 70's/80's/90's when I set the record at 291mph. The racers have found ways to improve... why not NHRA?

Why not create "criteria" for National Event tracks... make them all like Bruton Smith does it. There wouldn't be another senseless loss like Scotty.

Once again NHRA has given the problem to the racers to fix... Don't spend their money and lengthen the shut down area and make sure there is no TV equipment in the way... Just race a shorter distance... This costs NHRA nothing.

Again, NHRA sidesteps the problem. It’s sad.

Plenty more to drag racing than NHRA

NHRA - in charge? Looks to me like the folks paying the bills (the fans and racers) ultimately vote with their pocketbooks on what happens at the races. NHRA was founded to promote safety, not rule drag racing and NOBODY appointed them "custodians" of the sport OR nitromethane. I can call myself the King of Mexico but that doesn't make it true. There's a whole lot of racing (not bracket contests) going on without NHRA. You do a pretty good job of featuring some of them on DRO.

I do agree the distance doesn't matter. I've become fond of eighth-mile races.

Garlits had ‘em covered

Yo Burkster...as usual you're right on the money, top to bottom. As to Big compared to the rest, when Joe, Shirley or Tony starts to design, fabricate, assemble, tow AND race, call me. Oh yeah, add to that set a 200+ record on the slippery Bonneville Salt Flats in a flathead powered vehicle.

Nyuk, nyuk, nyuk

Just wondering... when you changed your mind not to be a "1/4 mile or die" fan.

Just wondering... about the venues on tour that don't sell out.

Just wondering... if there are less explosions/fires now - then how about 1/8 mile racing?

Just wondering... how you ever figured the NHRA Brass was ever in control.

Just wondering... how soon you will start beating the "1/8 mile drum".

Just wondering... what ever happened to your love for 1/4 mile racing that you have been involved with over the past 40 years.

Just wondering... how you ever figured there was supposed to be a return on investment for running a TF dragster.

Just wondering... how you just figured out that NHRA hasn't had a concern for the Sportsman Racers in more than a decade.

Just wondering... when ADRL will fold due to economic realities faced by NHRA/IHRA.

Just wondering... how can any sanctioning body have a contingency plan to bring in more Pro cars when the money they pay is junk.

Just wondering... how you can ask an old fan like myself to pay $65.00 for a ticket on Sunday to see 320' less of competition.

Just wondering... when you are going to come from behind the ropes and join us in the stands after paying the current NHRA ticket prices... and then see if you are pleased with the show.

Just wondering... whoever thought that Schumacher was a great driver. Alan Johnson is the greatest tuner of all time. Luigi Novelli could dominate with Alan Johnson in his corner calling the shots. Has nothing to do with driving skill.

Just wondering... if you wrote your last commentary on the Island of Moronica where the 3 Stooges live.

Just wondering... if you will let me write a Guest Columnist piece for the next issue of Drag Racing Online.
