VIEW FROM UP NORTH

I'm not one to respond to articles I read, but this one I think needs a Canadian view. From my point of view the NHRA has abandoned Canada from the point of view of a 47-year-old who used to ride my bicycle to St. Thomas Dragway 37 years ago. Which was a 15 mile trek!

My view is that when our "Fuel Crisis” hit in Canada it was the RIGHT time for NHRA to pull out and keep things in the U.S. We lost Sanair to Topeka and the NHRA has not showed

any interest to come back!

The IHRA on the other hand has given us drag racing fans north of the border a major shot in the arm by committing to three national events and talking of more! Also, it has given our racers a chance to compete at a national level! Also, it has given some Canadian teams a chance to compete at the professional level in nitro dragster and funny car.

It's very funny that the NHRA would be intimidated by the IHRA. Is not the NHRA the ALMIGHTY SANCTIONING organization or so they think of themselves! If they did change their schedule I would wish it would backfire on them. We have enjoyed reading and seeing the NHRA regulars that have been competing at IHRA events and really hope they continue! Chances are that it will keep some of the teams away from IHRA events and you can't blame the teams. They have to do whatever they can to survive. But if the NHRA is planning on winning over any new fans, I don't think they have put any thought into the move!

All Canadian fans that have had a chance to attend an IHRA event north of the border have been entertained with some of the best racing there is anywhere. And the IHRA is in my view the Number 1 drag racing sanctioning body in the world!

Thanks for letting me sound off!

DISSING ‘HENRIETTA’

Who's worried if you screw up a Buick Skylark, Jerrry Mathers? Small block Chevy in a Buick -- sweet. Small block in a Vega -- sweeter. Small block in a Crosley -- AWESOME. Add a Velocity stack, 2-inch carb spacer, CO2 injection, a fuel magnet, B&M Trick shift, Mobil 1 oil and that sucker would flat out fly...plus get 25 MPG. For what it’s worth, I would try to find the 262 small block. A 4-inch bore would just be overkill.

P.S. Drop the names. Project Henrietta is so gay!!

LIDTKE AND ELLIS PIT CREW

I was part of a pit crew for Duane Lidtke and Kenny Ellis  in the late ‘60s and early ‘70s on a twin engine Top Gas dragster.  Just wondering if any of your subscribers remember the car or these guys. Raced primarily at Lions, OCIR, and Irwindale.
