PAUL PAGE #2

Burk, you've got to be kidding. The man continues to prove that he hasn't got a clue, doesn't know the game, doesn't know the players. Mike Dunn must have the patience of Job to continually put up with Page's blunders.

I say get the bum out of there.

The TV show has made great progress. The tech segments and fan email
questions add meat to the usual tired fluff. But Paul Page brings the whole show down a notch. Pity.

I enjoy your column. No fluff.

Cheers,
Tim Duffy

DRIVING FORCE #8

Jeff, what color is the sky in your world? You need to lighten up a bit on Driving Force. Yes, it's a little animated, but the people I know love the show and now want to go to their first drag race! This is good for the sport and a great way to attract some new fans and energize the old ones. John Force is a living legend and is one of a kind. Now, go stand in the corner until you can behave yourself!

ON NOSTALGIA FUNNY CARS

Darr, I concur with all you said in your column. Nostalgia Funny Cars can be the shot in the arm smaller venues need to survive but for the NFC's to survive they will need a Bill France-type to lead them.

Letting racers write the rules and such will NEVER work, as they can't think beyond their own operations and have little understanding of the promotional side of racing. No motor

racing association, other than NASCAR has a handle on the entertainment value of auto racing and get so involved in the technical aspects of their sport. It's just a matter of time until the funny cars, teams and support equipment become unaffordable for all but the wealthy, the VERY wealthy!

For survival the group will have to consider the tracks and promoters in all matters, as it's their ability to earn profits that will provide the venues for the racers to race. The area I believe that has been the weakest in N/FC racing is the rulebook and it should be the strongest. How does one make the needed commitment in finances, etc. when they don't know what the rules are going to be? The racers will try to write the rules and that is a disaster!

If a Powers FC body is legal and runs well, that will set up what all the cars will have to look like and it will make the N/FC's more like the NHRA 'Big Show' cars - and are they not falling from favor with the fans? Take away Force and perhaps Capps and people will go to the snack bar until the long skinny cars run again! The ‘Big Show’ dragsters are also headed that direction, too boring, as in cookie-cutter. Leveling the playing field and making the cars into spec cars has made the races closer at the finish line but the fans are yawning before they get to the finish line!! A better, more wide-open rulebook could help revive almost all motor racing. As you stated, no one yawned at OCIR when Setzer raced Billy Meyer.

I think you get the idea of where I would stand if I gave a sh*t, which I could, if I didn't think the people now trying to run the deal would screw it up quicker than it could be fixed.

Give ‘em hell, Darr.
