MISS WINSTON WAS MORE THAN
JUST A PRETTY FACE
I remember back in the days of Winston Drag Racing they had Deb Brittsan, "Miss Winston," handing out trophies at the finish line for both pros and sportsman racers. But she was more than just a trophy girl, she was also a spokesperson for drag racing, just as famous as some of the racers. She connected to the racers and spectators. What ever happen to her? Who are the two girls at the photo shoots now, standing like book ends?

TURNING THE PAGE
Watching qualifying on Saturday April 8 was such a pleasure. No Paul
Page! Mike Dunn was his old self in the booth.
I hope we never see Page in the booth again.

HERE WE GO AGAIN
This 1000-ft deal seems awfully familiar. Oh yeah...We voted that 'IN' (cast in stone I think were the words used) back in the mid-80's at the Denver Rules Meetings. OH!! That's right, it got un-voted back in Glendora.

USING WATER WINGS?
I read Dave Wallace's article about rain-outs, and it made me remember one day at San Fernando Drags, around 1969. It had rained, but the sun was out, so they started racing. The only problem was that one lane was wet and the other was dry. Cars were making passes in the dry lane while the track workers were sweeping water in the wet lane! After a while, a Top Fuel car came out to make a pass in the dry lane. I remember the announcer saying something like, "Is he really gonna make a pass?" I don't remember who the AA/FD was, but he did make a pass, smoking the hides and all, so we got our nitro fix that day. By the way, they did run an ET race and some cars were running the wet lane. It was a wild day, but race they did.

DIAPERS: A GREAT IDEA
I race with the PSCA & we have waaaay too many oil downs, I totally agree we should be required to have diapers. I have waited 2 1/2 to 3 hours in staging to run because the track was oiled. The last race at LVMS they passed out a flyer that said if you oil the track and fail to pull over out of the groove ASAP you would be fined $10.00 a minute for clean-up. I felt this was a little excessive, but I think it started to get the point across.
I have also approached one of my sponsors with the problem, hoping maybe they could come up with some kind of solvent that would help expedite the clean-up process, but they are in the synthetic oil business not the clean-up business. I would think there would be one of the oil companies that could easily come up with a chemical that would help us out -- come on, rice ash? There has to be a better way.
Thanks for another thought-provoking article!

A MIND MELD?
Jok, It's odd that you would write about engine diapers at approximately the same time as I purchased one from Dick Fox. They say great minds think alike, perhaps that's also true for lesser ones as well!
