WHAT WOULD NASCAR DO?

Thank you, Jeff, outstanding observations. Rick Stewart's authority has been undermined from that day on.

I wonder what would happen if Tony Stewart ignored a black flag from a NASCAR official.

WHAT’S A STARTER TO DO?

Stand in front of the Army rail and give the cut engine off and turn to other lane and give signal to look at tree and let him go down the track, and maybe the Army wouldn't run you over.

ANOTHER BUSTER STORY

Some of your readers are very right. Buster Couch would have stood in front of that car. I think NHRA saw a way to make money on a fine, so told Rick over the radio to let it go.

I saw Buster tell a track helper to clean up some oil on the starting line once, and the helper didn't hear him, or ignored him.  Buster went over to him and picked him up like a rag doll, and scrubbed up the oil with the worker and the workers clothes. Then he tossed the poor guy aside like the used rag he was. Those were the days before "politically correct" was in! Buster always got a lot of respect!

The whole thing was a Chinese fire drill!

TESTIFYING

Can you imagine Schumacher not shutting off with Buster straddling the car? He would have had a "come to Jesus" meeting with Tony, Alan and anybody else who wanted to attend. The entertainment value would have been incredible. Oh, the good old days!

FAVORITISM?

Jeff, I agree with you 100%, on the Tony Shoe/Rick Stewart incident! I was screaming at the TV, while it was happening! Schumacher should have been immediately disqualified.

The main reason I got interested in drags at a very young age (9) was the extreme favoritism I witnessed in NASCAR. The rules in NASCAR are changed and enforced, depending on how popular/how rich, you are.
