NOSTALGIA FUNNY CARS
Today’s N/TF cars are already in Purgatory and, judging from the downsize of cars, probably doomed. My choice to build an N/FC had nothing to do with being tipped over about floppers, it was purely a matter of refusing to deal with the goofy tires and the 10,000+ rpm deal and not wanting to be responsible for creating a bomb.
You are also correct about the N/FC rules freeze. I have the fastest and quickest Donovan-powered VRA-legal N/FC on the planet and I sure as hell don't need a bigger pump or bigger tires, and if they let in 44 amp mags I'm selling my stuff and buying another boat. That’s my story and I'm sticking to it!

TAKE A LEAF FROM THE NFL PLAYBOOK?
Has anybody been watching the NFL network? Yeah, yeah, this is Drag Racing Online not NFL online. But have you seen their NFL replay on Tuesday and Wednesday nights? They replay the four best games of the week and they cut out all the boring crap between snaps,
which basically cuts the game time in half. Also they add in commentary from the coaches and players from the after game press conference as it relates to specific plays. What does this have to do with drag racing?
Why not tape delay the qualifying and eliminations in a similar format. Cut out all the boring stuff, edit out the cars backing up and last minute adjustments by the crew chiefs. Show the burn-outs, cut right to the staging, launch and run. Add in some top end interviews, and some commentary by the driver or crew chief about what happened during the run or what the driver had to do to get down the track. Also don't forget super-slo-mo!
By doing it this way, they can show every run in a show that is only 60-90 minutes long. Maybe there would even be time to show some of the sportsman racers too. It's crazy enough that is just might work.
Maybe less is more!!
While we're being crazy, why not take it a step further? Create a highlights show after the season, include the important stories from the season, points battles, etc. Add in commentary from the racers and crews about those stories, including speeches from the awards ceremony, etc. Also include some of the off-season work and pre-season testing for the upcoming year. Throw it all into a 60-90 minute show to be aired the weekend before the Winternationals. A great way to get everybody ready for the new season.
For any of this to happen however, ESPN would have to actually care about drag racing. ESPN, "The world wide leader in (poor coverage of) sports."
