A SPARKLING PERSONALITY
Very, very well said Jeff. Each track should have it's own personality.

ADJUST TO THE CONDITIONS
Nicely written. I match race at a number of tracks in OH, MI, and PA and my favorite is Norwalk. The track is smooth, the prep is great, and the crew knows that we have a shot at "putting up a number" if yours truly doesn't screw something up between the start and
finish. Yet, as much as I love Norwalk, we race a couple of times a year at 131 in MI. The track owner and the fans want to see us run at night for the header flames (and I agree), but the dew gets heavy there after dark and the car can really start moving around on the top end. We race at Thompson (OH), home of the Gasser Reunion a couple of times a year. Although the track has been ground and is smooth, there is a bump at the finish line in one lane that has knocked my glasses off inside of my helmet! To add to the excitement, just past the last turn-off is a steep hill down to a ditch, which is filled in on the left side but open on the right lane side.
In my old age, I usually shut off at about 1000-1100 feet. As I have gotten more comfortable with six-second passes, I secretly look forward to the tracks that are not as good as Norwalk just to test myself.
Anyway, Jeff, I always enjoy your column and your site.

RACERS SHOULD TEST THEMSELVES AGAINST THE TRACK
Right on! Skill in tuning and driving should be rewarded. I like interesting track conditions and weather conditions. Otherwise let’s just race in a bubble.

SAFE BUT TRICKY IS OK
Man, right on the money! I did love Marty and Dunn yukking it up about a "Pro Stock pedal-fest!" I think tracks should be smooth, just for safety, but being tricky does bring out the best in a team.
Since every Pro Stocker qualified quicker than the two week old national record, I doubt that one could say that Virginia is a "bad track." The weather was perfect. The air was perfect. I also think everyone was "going for it."
Specifically, look at Pro Stock. Maybe, just maybe, Line and Anderson were just doing their regular deal, and everyone else just kept trying to hit one out of the park and just pushed too hard? I don't know that, just wondering, so to speak!
Keep up the great work!

MONOPOLY DIDN’T LAST
Didn’t Western Auto do the Knoll thing (cars everywhere) back in the day? Where are they now?

GO SOUTH, YOUNG MAN
Go to South Georgia Motorsport Park if they want a track that hooks up and produces the best ET's. Since Wade Rich has taken over the track has no equal. Can't say enough about it.
