IS THAT AN ICEBERG AHEAD?

Jeff, you are right on the mark.... Drag racing is the greatest motorsport that most people don't know about! The NHRA and IHRA seem to be stuck in the Stone Age when it comes to self-promoting. Even POWERade has its head stuck where the sun don't shine.... If I have to watch the girl curling the dumbells with one giant arm one more time I'm going to go play in traffic! I'm just afraid that the NHRA is going to start losing even its loyal fans.... 85% nitro, rev limiters, and the idiotic points chase.... give us a break. The days of setting new speed and ET records in the nitro classes are deader than the TV ratings!

I will always love and follow the sport but I feel like I'm sitting on the deck of the Titanic.... my ship is slowly sinking!

THERE’S GOTTA BE A WAY

Burkster…. Really a good interview with Lee Beard. The one thing left out of his analysis returning to 90%.... maybe there are a few idiots out there that can afford to race 90% but not 85%, may just bring a few old timers back out and race a limited schedule. Do I ever wish it was the ‘60s again, watching 100 fuelers and 120 gas cars qualifying for 32 spots. It ook all day but it gets me excited thinking that if there was only some way the sport could be more affordable so a bunch of the A/Fuel and Alcohol could afford to run top fuel….

NEED AN IMAGE CHANGE

Excellent analysis of the "stepchild" treatment that the media gives drag racing.... and I agree with most of the solutions. I tire of the "yes men" treatment on the NHRA website, and on the television coverage, and that it has contributed to the sports treatment. But the media must take some of the blame also. They operate largely on preconceptions...and drag racing has been, and still is looked at by them as a bunch of speed crazed, dare-devil hoods.... wearing T-shirts and covered with grease.

Unfortunately the "face" of drag racing is John Force....don't get me wrong, this is not a knock on him, but he is always "John being John".... and it just serves to feed the media's preconceptions of the sport being populated by a bunch of "nuts." Also, all the legends of the sport hate publicity and have contempt for the press. We don't have a Petty or a Bobby Allison out their representing the roots of the sport's virtues.

It's a shame because the fact that we have more minorities and women participating fulltime in the sport should be a sure-fire magnet to get the press involved in heralding the sport’s diversity and rich tradition of embracing anyone who shows that they can do the job. You would think the press would be tripping over themselves to cover that aspect of the sport.... but they just can't get past their template that we are all morons, and don't miss a chance to drop the hammer against the guy next to us at the stop light. Something has to change... and quickly.

JUST TELL VIEWERS WHAT IS GOING ON

I was just wondering what happened to Saturday night’s qualifying from Sonoma? Did I miss something? I tuned in to see NHRA, and got Busch cars. No on-screen scroller alerting me that they would be on later, which they weren't. Nothing.
