WHO CAN SAVE LACR?

Ok, you asked for it! Bitching about the closing of LACR - yes I am. I know plenty of fellow racers that are whining too. But to whom? LA County Board of Supervisors? I can hear Zev laughing now. City of Palmdale...maybe. So now DRO is wondering about why no protest.

It's DRO's turn to do something. Come on you guys - step up to the plate. Give us some email addresses, organize a protest with media coverage at the local Sheriff's station or at LA County Building downtown. Put out a call to the masses! Get us some publicity. With your press contacts surely you guys know somebody.

I know at least some guys that would make an effort if we had some help.

I guess it's too much to ask if NHRA could help. In fact I don't even think I've heard a peep from those boys in Pomona. Are they so far gone from this sport that they can't see where this is going? Drag racing's future and the loss of facilities to all the young guys and girls who frequent this track is at stake here.

P.S. Street racing in the Antelope valley is bad enough. The kids need this facility.

TOP FUEL THEORY

As we all head to Pomona this weekend I wonder, after Ms Will's Vegas adventure, that the 20-plus Top Fuel entered drivers aren't asking themselves, "Will I be next?"

With the amount of analysis, both with the specification bodies engineer and independent studies by a group of concerned, recently, it is apparent that almost EVERY element in a Top Fuel chassis is SCARILY OVERSTRESSED.

This is COMMON KNOWLEGE in that the results are easily obtained.

What is pathetic is that from the specification organization down through the sanctioning bodies, builders, owners and crew chiefs (maybe the drivers too) everyone seems to be in DENIAL!

The studies, both "OFFICIAL" and independent, pretty well coincided that strengthening need to be applied.

Other than one token fix, the rest was seemingly "blown off.” What scares this writer, besides the possible loss of one our drivers, is the prospect of parts and pieces going into the stands, parking lot, etc. and creating mayhem.
