660, 1000 OR 1320 FEET?

Different length tracks for drag racing? It's already hard enough for newbies to figure out, Jeff. Let's keep the confusion to a minimum, OK?

A THOUSAND IS AN EASY NUMBER TO WORK WITH

Right on about the 1000' tracks and the "Super Speedways".  Sounds like something the DirecTV people will just eat up.  After all, to them it's just all about the marketing.

Thanks.

MAKING ‘EM THINK

I really like your comment about using a variety of track lengths on the NHRA tour! That is something I had never thought of before, but it would surely make things more interesting and probably serve to even out the fields a little more. I hope it happens (NASCAR emulation aside)!

May be more of a sportsman draw, too, as there are a lot more 1/8-mile tracks out there now. Kudos for the great idea and count me in if you start a movement. :-)

IS A BAND-AID BETTER THAN NO AID?

Burk, I always read your column, and I usually agree 100%. But is 1/8 mile racing really the answer? Can you remember the first time that you ran down that 1/4 mile? I remember (I’m 46) how short it felt. I love the thrill of "hanging it all out" on the top end. I have never raced on a 1/8 mile track, but if my local track (Great Lake Dragway, Union Grove, Wisc.) switched I would still go. I just think that the shorter track is a band-aid for cars that are too fast for the current safety standards.

Keep up the good work!
