HO-HUM

Eighth of a mile race in San Antonio, TX? Is IHRA out of their minds? Leave the length of the race alone. I have attended all of the IHRA national events in San Antonio, TX, and the race last year was not that great. In fact, it was a yawner.
I hope they realize that the NHRA funny cars guys like Gary Densham, Cruz Pedregon, and Del Worsham that attended last year’s event would not have come to the track in "test mode" for the Houston NHRA race the next weekend, if the race was listed as an eighth mile race!
I hope someone at IHRA wakes up and leaves the race as quarter mile (as the sport of professional drag racing was intended to be!) before they realize that ticket sales and big name stars will not be there. Just say NO to eighth mile professional drag racing.

EIGHTH MILE MEANS NEW RECORDS TO SET
Spent the weekend in Primm, Nevada, at the sand drags to support Butch and Teri Blair with their Top Fuel Sand Dragster...300 feet...that’s all folks. Less than 2.5 seconds and 160 MPH. Just a 2.5 second explosion!!!! WOW!!!! Fuel Racing is Fuel Racing. Eighth mile (660 feet) at about 3 seconds and 270 MPH. The explosion lasts just a little longer and you don't get covered with dirt. I say lets go to eight mile with no restrictions on cubic inches or fuel percentages and let ‘em have at it. Heck, it will be years before they get to 300 MPH in the eight.
Come on now, it will be a great show (100% nitro sounds wonderful), a whole bunch cheaper for the racer, and a lot safer for everyone.
And everyone will be trying to reset the record at every race, unlike the current program where they are trying to slow everyone down. Hey, if you can't shoot for the record at every race, it’s just a job...NOT A PASSION. Let's get everyone excited about going for it again...and keep the sport growing...
And maybe, just maybe, the sportsmen racers can race without putting on the brakes before they get to the finish line (I hate it when they do that!!)... WIDE OPEN FROM START TO FINISH... THAT'S DRAG RACING!

PAYING AS YOU GO
Great stuff, Jeff. I bought a set of Hedman Headers from Sears & Roebuck in 1968 for my ‘67 GTX 440. I worked in the paint department, and had to wait until I paid them off as credit was a little different back then - even for an employee!

LOOKING FOR SOME INFORMATION
This message is for Bill Kaska. My name is Gary Kielbasa and I have been trying to find out for many years where Glenn Leasher was buried so I could go and pay my respects. I was nine years old at the time of his death and met him when he drove the Untouchable 1.
My father who is no longer with us went to school with Romeo Palamides and I played music with his son. My dad took me to my first jet car race in Fremont where I met Glenn Leasher. If you could please contact me I would love to hear from you and talk about Glenn. ((The email I am using is oanneh@att.net) Please do not hesitate to write me. I am looking forward to hearing from you and any information you can give me will be appreciated.
