CALLING MR. SMITH!

Does anyone know how to contact Bruton Smith? There is a situation here on Long Island where about 270 acres have been offered to a company as part of a compromise. They lost the bidding war for land but are not willing to just build a racetrack alone instead of their original entertainment complex.

Bruton Smith needs to see if he can grab this offering from Riverhead Town!

We are so tired of petitions, meetings, rallies, double-talk politicians, denied proposals on other lands, and driving to New Jersey to race. Anyone got a contact number or address?

ON OFFER FROM THE JACKSON BROS.

Regarding a 2-hour program and attention span. I was thinking of sending ESPN 1960s and ‘70s footage of some of the team owners like Force, Schumacher, Snake, Kallita, Ace, and some of the drivers in their heyday. Also included would be the new heroes who were nobodies in the ‘70s/’80s.

How about some filler historical footage on those rain-outs or down-time, or boring interviews...you know what I mean. I have broadcast equipment to put the footage on to make it real easy for ESPN, but I've been reluctant, or maybe just scared to get blown off and get hurt feelings over it. We have other very rare clips that would really liven up the interest, like 4 jets side by side, 4 cars side by side, Jungle Pam (Jim too), wild shots, weird cars, 4-wheel drive dragsters...on and on.

A 3-hour program wouldn't be so long if some really rare and neat cars from the ‘50s to the ‘70s were injected throughout the program. I may do something after we finish the Early Funny Car/AFX video late next year.

Like you say, "Just Wondering"...

DON’T PUT IT OFF

I feel now, not later, is the time for the drag racing world to come to grips with the reality that we need to slow the cars down.  Yes, practically all other forms of motor racing have had to do so, now it is our turn...

We've lost too many good people/great drivers in recent years, we dodged a huge bullet times two in Dallas. Our time to act is now, I fear a big loss will come in the near future if we don't!

ALL JAMMED UP?

I guess I'm getting old; while you guys are excited about 1/8 mile events for the IHRA, I'm nothing but disappointed with almost everything that is happening in the IHRA the last few years. Cancelled Friday qualifying sessions, cancelled races, lack of parity in Pro Mod, too many races in far off places (Canada), and now 1/8-mile races.

To be fair, they did try and help the bottle cars a little in Pro Mod, and I guess you can't have Friday qualifying if no one wants to run. But I missed the race at MIR for the first time in years in September and went to the sprint car races instead.

With 1/8 mile racing on the horizon, it looks like I'm stuck with the NHRA for my drag racing entertainment. The IHRA has always been a little more about the Saturday evening fireworks than the racing, but the situation seems to be getting worse.
