Dave Hough brought four Fuel Altereds for the event. We liked all but Hough’s “Super Nanook” really intrigued us. It was the original Super Shops give-away car and Hough won the ’76 Fuel Altered Nationals in this same car. He went a 6.20 at nearly 250 mph at Cordova. Check out the clutch dust just behind the front wheel. (Don Eckert photo)

“Pure Hell” is ultra sano. Love the hand-formed fuel tank way up in front of the motor. (Don Eckert photo) “Moparious Maximus“ is still one of the editor's all time favorite cars in the Midwest. The supercharged wedge motor and straight front axle is cool. Passes of almost 165 mph and 8.50 seconds are even better. Father and son do ALL the work on the car. (Don Eckert photo)
