Labbous’ luck ran out on Sunday, and Newland, NC, racer Junior Houston earned the final $20,000-to-win race of the weekend. Houston drove to victory over Brian Folk, after both drivers ran faster than their dials. Houston used an incredible .003 R.T. against Folk’s equally impressive .008 R.T. Houston’s run was a 4.602 E.T. (4.61 dial-in) at 148.02 mph, while Folk ran a 4.665 E.T. (4.70 dial-in).

Jeg Coughlin Jr. took advantage of an off weekend in NHRA Pro Stock competition to drive his bracket cars.

“My brothers and I all enjoy sportsman racing and it doesn’t get any better than an event like this,” Coughlin said before the race. “I still bracket race whenever I get the chance so hopefully I'll fall into a rhythm and win some rounds."

He didn’t do as well as he had hoped, however. On Friday, the dragster was eliminated in the first round. He fought back on Saturday and made it to the sixth round of competition before bowing out. On Sunday it was all over in the third.

The station wagon started strong and then faded as the days went on, lasting to the fifth round on Friday, the third on Saturday and leaving in the first round on Sunday.

Billy Leber lasted until the fourth round on Friday, the third on Saturday and the second on Sunday.
