Koedam, the low qualifier in Top Fuel Bike, had nailed the top spot on the ladder with a sweet 6.592/193 early shutoff pass from the Zodiac supercharged V-Twin with some very impressive short numbers. Team principals Vincent and Ton Pels were a bit concerned about the ruptured exhaust pipes, but with a new set due to be picked up the week after the meeting they loaded the bike up for the final round, only for the repaired set to fail in more spectacular fashion and burning off a fair bit of the electrics. No damage to Roel though and the team will head off on the UEM tour in fine fettle.
Another with their eyes on a bigger prize was Christian Jäger and the Black Seven Funnybike team. Getting the power down to the track was definitely something of a problem throughout the weekend, but Mike Olie and Steve French weren’t able to beat the German in eliminations, and the data gathered on how not to launch the bike whilst contesting the inaugural UEM Funnybike Cup that kicks off in Hungary at the end of April.
A lot of attention in the ACU Pro Stock Bike pits directed at European Record holder Dave Beck’s new mount which looks a mean piece of work but needed a motor change over the weekend whilst Dave struggled with an as yet undiagnosed ailment that landed him in hospital the week after the event – we pass on our best wishes for a rapid recovery.
