Armen Maghessian whose ‘57 flamed Chevy Coupe was the wheelstander of the weekend at LVMS came out loaded for bear at the Accufab-backed PSCA race. Armen ran his first ever seven-second pass with a very strong 7.985 at 177.99 mph for #1 spot in the class. The final, though, was dominated by a guy that that seems to keep winning round after round: David Schwartz and his potent turbo Mustang. He put it in the winner’s circle again with an 8.025/179.21 over Artis Houston’s close but second 8.272 at 172.71 mph

After a couple of lackluster performances with his bright green Mustang in Limited, veteran racer Gary Brandt really stepped up this weekend, first by setting the pace at 8.935 and 158.89 mph. Then he ran into arch rival Craig Williams and his potent LA-based Camaro in the final round only to almost duplicate that time at an 8.939/154.51 over the reigning champion Williams at a close but second 9.159 at 152.75 mph. The guy that seems to have dominated this new class is Mark Washington with his ‘73 Corvette that looks like he just drove it to the track. Mark was the low qualifier at 10.643/134.16. Then in the final he stepped up and ran a 10.637/135.27 to defeat Anthony Smith’s game 10.738/130.91.
First of the dial-in classes was the Super Street class who are on an 8.60 index. Veteran bracket racer Paul Weichman and his daughter Jeannie both drive their bracket cars at many events, but Paul put his little Oldsmobile into the show closest to the dial in at a fine 8.603. It was a double breakout in the final round, though, with two very tough customers in this 14-car field, as Doug Crumlich won the class at a 8.584, 160.12 over Rod Oddo at a 8.581, 160.59 by breaking out by less than Rod’s Camaro.
