The big bad black El Camino of Walker backed by RC Construction, Walker Properties, and tuned by Charles Carpenter, slowed down to a 6.474/ 217.73 but that was enough to easily eliminate rookie Dawood’s 7.205/193.43 lap in his Mustang. Soulages got a bye run when his competition, Jeremy Hanger, broke and could not make the call. Soulages legged his bye run and got his first six-second timing of the season as he booted the truck through the lights at an impressive 6.982/201.37 timing. Maggio advanced into the second round with yet another bye run when Karl Wilson’s ‘Vette broke. Maggio ran a respectable 6.843, 206.27 mph on his bye. .

In the quarter-finals Walker came extremely close to backing up his record ET run when a 6.339/220.48 number flashed up on the boards as he bested Scialpi’s 6.60 at 214.38 mph. Henry once again looked great in his Firebird as he guided the Conquest Pontiac to another 6.383/221.02 over Soulages’ Ford truck at a 7.029/200.55. Mihovetz in the Accufab Cougar easily advanced with a 6.752/220.87 over Maggio, who spun his tires and ran just a 7.641 at 211.63 mph.

The semifinals saw Henry paired up against 2008 PSCA champion Mihovetz. Mihovetz ran a fine 6.413/223.39 mph to advance when Henry’s potent Firebird ran just a 6.631/213.60. Walker was due another bye run and chose not to run the El Camino hard in the semi’s, just idling through and saving the parts for the final round.
Charles Carpenter, Duane Walker and the crew for the Walker Racing El Camino were flat ready in the final as Randy drove the famed El Camino to a fine 6.471, 218.72 mph while 2008 Champion John Mihovetz shook the tires and clicked it early.
