It was Ford vs Pontiac in the final with Weems getting an almost perfect (.004) Reaction Time to Sikora’s good .045 RT, but the Pettis powerplant and the Procharger were really working great in the Barstow-based Stang as Sikora saved the best for the final at an incredible 6.878/207.27 to Weems’s close 6.981/201.10 for his best of the Summernationals too.
EXTREME DRAG RADIAL

Eight of the country’s finest Extreme street cars showed up with Rich Hoyle’s 1963 Chevy Nova from Palmdale, Calif., setting the pace during qualifying. After defeating the likes of 2007 PSCA Champion Roger Holder in the first round and next newcomer Ronald Johnson and his awesome new Camaro, Hoyle met up with Las Vegas native Justin Buetner’s Mustang for the final round.
With a very quick .020 RT Hoyle ran his very best pass of the weekend at a fine 7.700/177.44 to defeat the bright orange Mustang of Buettner at an 8.043/141.05.
WILD STREET
Always an exciting class is Wild Street, as David Schwartz from San Diego was the #1 qualifier in the eight-car field. He defeated Armen Maghdessian’s ‘57 Chevy first then cranked out his best pass of the weekend at a fine 8.014/177.79 against always-tough Scott Oskas (8.418/166.11).
In the final round Dee Pfnister and his Peoria, Arizona-based ‘69 Camaro ran the quickest time of the entire weekend, but unfortunately he redlit and threw away a fine 7.988 at 179.23 mph. Schwartz was on a good pass too with his winning run of 8.026 at 177.39.
HOT SREET
Hot Street has really been a great class until this weekend. Only five cars were on hand to begin with, and Craig Gustafson broke during qualifying and NHRA Comp racer Randy Jones did not hear the call for Hot Street on time so after a controversy over whether he was there on time or not, the call was made and Tony Aneian with new sponsor Caramba Tequila got to make a single. Something broke in his tranny right on the starting line, but it was good enough for a win.
Meanwhile Anthony Valentio in his 1968 Camaro from Lakewood, Calif., ran a very strong pass of 8.490 at 160.19 mph over John Mitchell’s 2003 Cobra Mustang (8.590/164.31). Mitchell had a perfect reaction time.
