Reigning Lucas Oil Alcohol and Division 1 Funny Car champ Frank Manzo appeared to have the field covered going into the finals having qualified his Lucas Monte Carlo on the pole with a 5.568 at 258.81 and running back to back 5.50’s in the first two rounds of eliminations.

Micky Ferro defeated Marty Nothstein to get to meet Manzo for the gold.

On the other side of the ladder eventual finalist Micky Ferro was taking his Ryco Hydraulics Monte Carlo past Richmond runner up John Anderika in round one with a 5.655 and Marty Nothstein, driving the Jay Blake “Follow a Dream” entry, in the semis where he ran a 5.671 to Nothstein’s foul. Ferro was running good but was still a full tenth behind the Lucas champ.

In the finals Ferro was out first with a 0.020 light to Manzo’s 0.058 RT and hung on for the upset win running a 5.650 to Manzo’s quicker but losing 5.638. Although Manzo didn’t win, he left Maple Grove with a big lead in the division standings with a 100-point lead over second place Terry Munroe.

Don and Cherly Milson won their first ever Top Dragster title at the Grove.
