Swede Urban Johansson’s appearance in the final round was just one indication of a strong return to form for the 2006 champion. Having put two 6.1s and a 6.20 together in the first three rounds of eliminations, Ubbe’s team had a real thrash to get the car ready for the final round against Robinson after the call “there’s a hole in the block” crackled over the race radios once Johansson’s 6.205/228.76 had taken a holeshot victory over Bruno Bader 6.188/225.79; the Swiss racer being another on consistent 6.1 second pace for most of the weekend. The efforts of half the Pro Mod pits were in vain as the Tim McAmis Corvette dropped off to a 6.470/220.29 that wasn’t enough to get Ubbe close to Robinson.

As we’ve already mentioned, Top Methanol Dragster was good, very good indeed, and after two simply awesome (and we mean awesome in the restrained British use of the term) qualifying sessions on the Sunday, Timo Habermann ended up on top of the pile with a 5.351/259. This booked him a first round match up with last season’s champion Peter Schofer who had qualified on the record setting bump with a 5.580/256. Habermann dropped a 5.398/263 to defeat Schofer’s 5.524/250, clocked a 5.393/258 to get past Krister Johansson’s 5.66, veteran Krister having earlier carded a 5.441/258 for his PB ET. The final round saw Habermann leave first and then 5.428 seconds later the winning ET flashed up in his lane, followed by a fraction by a 5.428 for Hanssen. Quite simply the best Methanol eliminator in European drag racing history bar none, and somewhat ironic given the dire state the class was in six or seven years ago.
