Performance problems with all of his opponents, including Gary Courier in the final round, pretty much handed Maryland’s Jim Halsey the Pro Outlaw Nitrous win. Halsey qualified #2 and set Low ET and Top Speed at 5.869 seconds and 243.99 mph, showing that his ’68 Camaro would have been up to stiffer competition.

Jeff Rodgers got a little too hot in his “Executioner” Mustang Nitrous Pro Mod.

The Mike Janis team started off on the good foot, grabbing the pole position with a 3.926-second, 192.85-mph pass. In round one the Aeroquip team stepped up the performance of their Jan-Cen powerplant between the rails of their Dan Page-built Firebird and it paid off big time, setting low elapsed time and top speed of the meet with a 3.733 elapsed time at 203.34 miles per hour. In both the semi-finals and finals Janis squared off with one of his engine customers, Tombstone Tommy Gray and Dwayne Wolfe respectively.
