Jamie Den Beston of Loveland, Ohio won the wheelstand contest for highest 'stand. Maybe they should have checked for UFO technology under that hood....
For the past sixteen years the New family at Firebird Raceway in Boise, Idaho, has taken an idea that was conceived by patriarch Bill New and Norwalk Raceway’s Bill Bader for a Halloween race. Now the “Classic” has become one of the biggest races not only on the Firebird schedule but in the Pacific Northwest.
Nearly 600 entries filled the lanes for the five-day event, with competitors traveling from eight western states and a couple of Canadian provinces, all racing for a piece of the nearly $50,000 in cash and prizes. The Grand Champion takes home a cool $5,000 in cash and daily winners can win as much as $3,000 in cash, so there is plenty of incentive for racers to make the tow to Boise for one last chance at the quarter mile for the year.
The New Crew and their staff do an excellent job of having the facility decorated with great Halloween themed items and with the entire staff dressed up on Saturday, giving the place a great feel, and the racers and fans truly enjoy their experiences. There are games for the kids when they are not racing, along with hayrides and other activities to enjoy during the day.
The “Classic” not only provides a great deal fantastic racing, but it is the ultimate in family entrainment and family racing. Classes range from Jr. Dragsters to top dragsters so everybody can be involved in the racing. There is also a second chance race every day, giving those who are defeated in the first round a chance to expand on their enjoyment.
