One of the most frightening moments in the race occurred in qualifying when Darren Morgan lost a wheel at about the 330 foot mark. This saw him cross in front of opponent, Allan Dobson (who luckily had already gone up in smoke) and collide with the right hand wall. The car then rolled to a stop near the finish line. As can be seen the car was a lot worse for wear prompting Morgan to say that his biggest fear during the crash was not the abuse he took, but the fact that his wife may not let him drive again.

Following the event WSID’s Jim Read presented Hillary Will with the Scott Kalitta Memorial Trophy. A very emotional Read spoke fondly of the time that Kalitta had appeared at the venue and how much the man himself meant to the fans that came to see him.

The winner of the alcohol bracket has already been decided at this point as bracket debutant Rick Gauci in his BAE/Pontiac has already red lighted his chances away. Opponent Debbie Reed would have been tough to beat any which way following improving 5.74, 5.70 and final round 5.68 times.
