The 1650 cc Harley of Johnny Ireland is obviously a handful yet the Hog made it through to the second round of Modified Bike where a 10.99 broke out on an 11.00 dial-in.
As well as competing at the International event Hillary Will was also joined by her family who made it a bit of a holiday. “My dad, my step mom, my brother and my sister” made the trip and it meant a lot to win in front of them. I dedicate this win to Scott (Kalitta) and I am going to bring it home to his dad Connie. Scott wrote notes for me on how to do the warm up and the burnout and he was a like a brother to me, Jim O and a lot of the guys on the team”, she stated after the race.
“We had a lot of different problems – a lot of things that we normally don’t have to deal with especially on Friday. We had a backfire in the pits and it was popping out of gear – just a whole lot of different things. I don’t know if it was Scott trying to play games with us up there but this team is all about overcoming adversity. I’m thankful for the work that my team did – we came a long way 10,000 miles, here 10,000 miles back”. “We are only able to drive to one thousand feet in America at the moment – it was just awesome to drive to 1320 feet again”.
“When I’m in my driver suit there is no place I’d rather be. I was happy with that little rain delay because I could spend longer in my suit – it was a little hot but I was alright. I knew the car was going to get down the track (in the final), Jim O had figured it out and it showed just how good our team could be. ”We came here wanting to win the Scott Kalitta Memorial Trophy and hopefully I’ll be able to come back and win again”, she concluded.
