Once again, rookie
Montgomery Motorsports Park
promoter Jim Howard decided to ignore
threatening weather forecasts and came away
with an awesome two day Mullis Super 7 event.

On Saturday, May 3, rain started falling at the rate of two inches
per hour on MMP, but Howard cast the dice and bet that the rain would
stop and the MMP crew could dry the track and race. Howard won the bet as
a field of over 150 cars enjoyed great competition Saturday evening and again Sunday.

"I want racers to understand that we're not going to be scared of a weather forecast. If there is any way possible, we will race," said Howard. In April, MMP ran two complete races in one day to get the Super 7 event in.

The Saturday Pro competition featured an absolutely other-worldly run of packages by Saraland, Ala., racer Jimbo Smith. In the quarters, semis and finals, Jimbo unleashed packages totaling only 16/1000. In the finals, Jimbo lined up his 2000 Firebird against heavy hitter Kenny Dixon of Calhoun, Ga. Jimbo dialed a 5.08 and ran a 5.085 at 135.23 with a sterling .001 light. Dixon responded with a .005 reaction time, a dial of 4.71 and a run of 5.711 at 143.47 mph. How close was the race? The margin of victory was 4/1000 of a second. Kevin Pruett was the lone semi-finalist.
