PIT NOTES
The final-round battle between Canadians from Ontario fizzled. Rocky Dilecce, of Toronto, hurt the transmission in his '68 Chevelle in the semifinals and couldn't answer the bell. Delecce advanced to the final, using a 6.846-second pass at 211.76 mph to eliminate Jorge Rodriguez, the 2007 Shakedown runner-up to Bill Lutz. That handed the crown to Steve Lazzaro, of King City, Ontario. He was going to treat the crowd to a hot lap with his '69 Camaro, but the car got a bit squirrelly around half-track and he had to get out of the throttle. Lazzaro recently set time and speed records recently with a 6.72-second run at 224.25 en route to the Ontario Street Car Association's Super Street championship.

OUTLAW DRAG RADIAL
Winner: Dave Hinzman (Olmsted Falls, Ohio), '87 Mustang, 7.344 seconds, 198.03 mph ($5,000 ) Runner-up: Glennie Buckler (Mechanicsville, Maryland), '04 Mustang, 7.837 seconds, 163.37 mph Quarterfinal finishers: Chris Little, Dave Hance, Mike Modeste, Paul Major. * NOTE: Hance (crash), Modeste (engine problems), and Major missed this round, so Hinzman, who beat Little, advanced straight to the final round, along with Buckler, who drew a bye. So this class did not have a semifinal round.
PIT NOTES
This is the only other major race besides the World Street Nationals in Orlando, and the Bradenton race where this class is ran…..The final was battle of Ford Mustangs. . . . Shakedown founder and promoter Dave Hance had a major on-track disappointment. For the second straight year, Hance brought a brand-new race car to The Shakedown and wound up in an accident. Last year he crashed on practice run the night before the one-day event.

This time he made it into the show as the No. 22 qualifier but wrecked the '93 Mustang in the second round of the Drag Radial eliminations. He was uninjured. . . . Defending Shakedown champion "Mustang Mike" Modeste, of Brooklyn, also exited in the same round with engine trouble. . . . Chris Little was really no match for eventual winner Dave Hinzman and his 7.182-second, 200.47-mph blast in the third round. But Little's not-so-little wheelstand about 500 feet downtrack wasn't any help. Little was runner-up to Modeste last year, as his car broke at the start of the run. Round 2 winners: Dave Hance, Mike Modeste, Paul Major, Glennie Buckler, Dave Hinzman , Chris Little Top qualifier: David Wolfe (Fort Worth, Texas), '89 Mustang, 7.216 Fastest qualifier/Top Speed: Paul Major (Fort Salonga, New York), '01 'Vette, 204.39 mph Low E.T. of meet: Dave Hinzman, 7.182 (Elimination Round 3) Car count: 22 (one more than last year) Class sponsor: Pro Torque, presented by Big Daddy Performance |
