Sean Belt drove his supercharged ’48 Fiat on mind-blowing burnouts every lap and was runner-up to Mark Worden’s front-motored dragster in the NPCA 6.50 ET class.
The drag racing included groups like the Nostalgia Pro Comp Association, the Geezer Gassers, Nostalgia Super Stock and a booked-in AA/FC and AA/FD show. For three days the fans that came to the event were transported back to a simpler time of blown Altereds, Fuel Funny Cars with stock bodies, supercharged ‘41 Willys gassers and AA/FD cars with the engines in front of the driver.
The reaction of the crowd and the racers indicated that for those three days at least they succeeded in turning back the clocks and revisiting their youth. And everybody seemed to be having a groovy time, man!
Nitro Funny Cars and Top Fuelers

Greg Jacobsmeyer from St. Louis won the AA/FC class, beating St. Louis racer Danny Miller’s ’70 Maverick in the final when driver Randy Baker in the Maverick had a loose ignition wire and coasted to a 14.74. In the other lane “Jake” legged it through with a 6.487/209.83, which got him the cash and Top Speed of the meet.
The first annual DRO AA Funny Car Invitational resulted in five AA/FC showing up for the Chicago Style race. Race promoter John Troxel added a Top Fuel Match Race at the last minute, which meant the spectators got to see both AA/FC and AA/FD nitro burners.
