| In barely its second year, the Outlaw Flat Four class is growing in leaps and bounds (often quite literally, photographers appreciate a class that leaves the wheelie bars off for most of qualifying), with Ritchie Webb qualifying low with the Ragtop Beetle at 9.891/138 to set both ends of a new class record. In eliminations Frank Hoffmann managed to outlast the rest of the field in what is rapidly becoming a class to keep a close eye on. |
After Paul Wright put in his customary mid seven second passes in Outlaw Anglia qualifying, Pete Ashworth dipped into the sevens and lowering his PB to a 7.949 from the Dayglo Twister 4, the Robinson Race Cars built Pop then kept on running through the field and had a bye in the final round when Wright’s Alcopop was a surprising no show. |
| The Super Modified sheets were again topped by Andy Kirk, the Rat Fink Camaro having a tenth of a second over the field at the end of qualifying with a 7.66 and then maintained his performance advantage through to the final round against Tim Garlick who he defeated with a 7.80 to Garlick’s 7.94. Kirk didn’t run the quickest time in the single carbed class though, as Fred Hone deserves a tip of the hat for producing a 7.59 on a test pass after changing a motor overnight and just missing the call for eliminations by ten minutes. |
After losing his ACU Top Fuel Bike crown last season, Steve Woollatt is looking to regain the title in 2007 with his PBR Puma bike. Top qualifying with a 6.702/211, and then nearly repeating those numbers in defeating last season’s champ Steve Carey with a 6.747/216 in the final will have delivered a tidy points haul for the veteran. The number of drive belts shredded over the weekend won’t have been so pleasing, although fortune favoured Woollatt when he slowed dramatically off the startline on a first round bye. |
