LIMITED STREET

Current Limited Street points leader Darrin Hoyle had another reason to smile after beating last year’s champion, Jeff Cooner, for the delayed Carolina win on Saturday afternoon. Hoyle and his 762-equipped ’69 Camaro reached only the semis on Sunday, however, losing to eventual race winner Carlton Thompson.

| Jackie Moran’s ’69 Camaro appears a little worse for wear after a 100-yard sideways excursion through the dusty grass alongside Huntsville’s shutdown area. It could have been much worse, but Moran did an admirable job keeping the car off the wall until just catching the end of it with the car’s left front fender. | Jeff Paulk, of Social Circle, GA, reached the final round for the first time with his new Limited Street Chevy pick-up at Huntsville, but lost to Carlton Thompson. “We kept trying to add a little power to it every round. It wasn’t quite as fast as we wanted to go, but we’re getting there,” Paulk said. “We left about even and then he drove off on me. He had me by about a car, a car and a half, there at the end.” |

| Tallahassee, FL’s Carlton Thompson wasn’t even qualified until the final session, but made it in at 13th-place in the 16-car Limited Street field. “We ran a 4.88 in the first round and had lane choice from then on. Everywhere we race it’s all about the lanes. You’ve got to run better than the other guy and stay in the good lane. It’s just the way it is,” Thompson explained after beating Jeff Paulk for the race win. Other than putting new tires on for the final, Thompson said he essentially left his ’04 twin-turboed Mustang unchanged throughout eliminations. “We just ran how we did all day, didn’t turn anything up or down, just left it alone,” he said after going 4.92/148.81 to defeat Paulk’s 5.08 at 152.65-mph pass. | |
