Although an abbreviated season, Dave Wilson managed to pick up the maximum available points through the year, low qualifying, low ET and winning each completed elimination round contested to comfortably secure his fifth title in a row. At the Euro Finals he qualified with a 5.456/258, almost matched these numbers with a 5.459/258 in the quarterfinals, and defeated a redlighting Timo Habermann in the semis with a 5.523. The perfect season was nearly spoilt in the final round when fellow Brit Rob Turner ran quicker to record a 5.485/254 but a slender holeshot coupled to a 5.492/257 put the Silverline Tools car a mere four inches ahead at the line. Wilson now has the race outfit up for sale and we await his next move with interest.

The second spot in the FIA TMD points behind Wilson came down to the semi final match up between Peter Schofer (near lane) and Rob Turner (far lane). Turner qualified with a 5.496/258 whilst Schofer chipped in at number 3 with a 5.606/252. Both maintained their respective pace in their first round victories, so Schofer took a shot at the tree in the semifinal and missed handing victory and the number two plate for 2008 to maintain their yearly oscillation of the 2 and 3 spots since Wilson’s title streak began.

In a repeat of last season, Dan Larsen and the Boxter Avenger has struggled through the year when a championship charge might have been expected but ended again on a high note with his second Euro Finals title in a row. From the third qualifying position (with a 5.789/247), Larsen knocked out new Euro Champ Freddy Fagerstrom in the semifinals by 0.07 seconds (that’s seven inches) with a 5.819/246 to a 5.829/249. The final round against Ulf Leanders was bit more straightforward as Larsen ran through with a 5.929 whilst the Ironcad Pontiac went up in smoke at 330 feet.
