Deed’s Performance Drag Radial is continuing to become popular with the racers and Derroll Hubbard had another good showing when he qualified number one with an 8.065. That would also stand for low E.T. for the event but Hubbard still had to face off against the previous event winner Dee Pfnister who is coming on strong despite not have run all the events. Pfnister took the win with an 8.218 with Hubbard running an off the pace 10.330.
The next surprise was in Paul Williams Modified Production, for the first time this year Mike Saiki was not number one qualifier. That honor went to Tony Palitano in his ’93 Mustang. However, once eliminations started it was a case of ‘Back to our scheduled program’ with Saiki taking the win over Palitano, 9.794 to a 10.760.

This event saw a new class arrive when Nostalgia Super Stock rolled to the line. At the end of the day it was a classic Sixties manufacturers clash when Doug Hampton took the win in his ’66 Fairlane over Patrick Akers ’63 Belair, 10.879 to a losing 11.747.
A/Gas has been the domain of Rob Patten but WCHRA newcomer Scott Loomis and his show quality Studebaker sat on pole. It would be these two who would continue and make their mark on the event by both reaching the final. Patten returned to his winning ways with a 7.774 with Loomis running a tad too fast at 7.597 trying to negate Patten’s starting line advantage.
B/Gas saw Randy Armstrong qualify on pole with an ever so close 8.606 but that was the end of his success for the weekend. Doug Hampton made it to another final and would face off against another event winner Rick Logsdon. The final was a close one with only .02 separating the two on the starting line and Hampton winning 8.630 to Logsdon’s holeshot 8.620.
C/Gas had former winner Doug Petroskey on top of the time sheets with a 9.612. However it would be Jim Stewart and Ken Brown who would duel for the title. Stewart took the win on a double breakout 9.591 to Brown’s quicker 9.580.
David Mallory was another Gas racer to run so close to his index, his 10.604 put him on top of the D/Gas time sheets. As with the other classes pole position did not guarantee advancing to the final. That was left to Al McGuiness and Mike Williams. In another double breakout final it was McGuiness who took the win 10.563 to Williams 10.557.
Open Comp had Josh Tyack sit on pole with his ’89 Mustang. The final saw local racer Franky Sisemore face off against Jody George, who is currently on a hot streak. The streak ended when Sisemore took his first ever win and sent George packing.
It was a great event and with all the surprises one that gave the fans lots of excitement. Next event is the WCHRA World Finals at Speedworld in Surprise, AZ, on 21-23 September.
