Jeff Shmell’s black ‘03 Mach I came from the second qualifying position to score Factory Stock honors and ran as quick as 11.49/117 on its way to the Shootout win over Jason Krueger’s NMCA ’64 Belvedere Super Stocker. For the second straight year, Bruce Hemminger dominated NMRA’s Real Street division; with a 313-inch maximum and 10.5 X 26 slicks, he qualified with a five-hundredths advantage at 9.94/133 and then blasted to a 9.86/139.33 (Top Speed) in the eliminator final over Jim Breese before winning the Shootout against the NMCA’s Tim Meagher.

Dave Schorr, whose Escort has been on a rampage in both NMRA and Fun Ford Weekend competition in ’07, used his father Jack’s unique naturally aspirated 817-cubic inch EFI combination to run a best of 6.61/212.26 (Top Speed) at 2550 pounds in NMRA Pro 5.0.

Runner-up in NMCA’s Open Comp, Les Bigelow’s small block Kentucky Camaro was the hardest-launching 10.50 car on the property. Bud Cochran took Ted Wells’s West Virginia SS/A ‘66 427 Fairlane to the final in NMCA’s Nostalgia Super Stock in nearly all-original and period-correct trim. The rear “hood stands” were lost on the younger fans.
