The Top Fuel Harleys may have been few in number (only 7), but their unmistakable sound filled the air at Bristol, Tennessee’s Thunder Valley.
Doug Vancil leads the All Harley Drag Racing Association Top Fuel points, but had bad luck in Bristol. After qualifying at No. 6 he lost a close one to Steve Stordeur in round one, running a 6.690/190.83 to Stordeur’s 6.382/217.77.
Takeshi Shigematsu made it to the semi finals, where he was eliminated by eventual class winner Tommy Grimes Jr. Although Shigematsu got a .046 to .130 holeshot, Grimes caught him by half-track.
Steve Stordeur had problems with the track, getting out of the groove on a couple of runs. That problem also took him out in the semi-final round as he had to give up, moving Joey Sternotti into the final round match up.
