Frankie Taylor was clearly excited in greeting his teammates after running a stellar 3.95 to beat Bil Clanton in round one of eliminations. After qualifying sixth at 4.00, Taylor went 3.95, 3.96 and 3.97 in a losing semi-final effort against eventual race winner Bubba Stanton. |
Georgia’s Bil Clanton put his “Big Money” ’53 Studebaker into the Pro Extreme show in 11th place with a 4.07 qualifying pass and though he improved to 4.03/180.00 in the opening round of eliminations it was no match for the 3.95 by Frankie Taylor in the opposite lane.

 The almost unthinkable happened when Jason Scruggs failed to qualify at Radford. Tire shake plagued Scruggs’ Mississippi-based ’63 Vette in its first two attempts and here, his father Mitchell (in front of car) tried in vain to get it started in the lanes prior to their last qualifying pass. |
 Bennie McDonald Jr. opted to replace the engine in his ’53 Corvette on Friday night after experiencing blower belt failure in the second round of qualifying. McDonald fell to Travis Swearingen in the opening round of competition. |
