
Although he failed to make the line in the second round of Street Eliminator, we had to include this photo of Steve ‘Splinter’ Nash when he came out for a practice run later in the day. The few tweaks Splinter was trying out “seemed to work too well” and put the turbo’ed Cougar on its rear bumper for most of the quarter mile. Splinter’s car is something of a new age Factory Experimental, always producing wild half track smoky burnouts…and he’s now got the bumper scraping photo sequence to match.
The .90 classes
Chris Isaacs builds a mean race car, and his rolling race shop billboard, this ultra rare and superbly detailed Standard Vanguard Estate (there are rumoured to be less than ten of these Vignale wagons that have escaped the dreaded rust since the late ‘50s) is one of the most photogenic bracket cars you will ever see. It’s certainly not all show as Chris’s numerous trophies in both Super Comp and Super Gas will attest. At the Summernationals, the Super Comp pot was added to the collection on what would prove to be an uncontested run after Peter Creswell was only able to pull into stage, his Mustang still wounded after leaving some smouldering residue on the startline in his semifinal when Brian Pateman red lit.

Conrad Stanley produced his best performance with his latest ride, the Panther Racing Firebird imported from Texas last season, in Super Gas competition. Making it to the final round of eliminations, Stanley ended up crossing the finish line a mere 7 millimetres behind the seemingly unstoppable Jon Morton (far lane), who hasn’t lost a single round of eliminations in Super Gas since September last year.
