Justus (shown) ran a 10.422 on a 10.38 dial-in to become the last man standing as he beat D’Amore’s 13.282 on a 13.22 dial. D’Amore didn’t have much time to reflect on what had just happened, however, as he hustled back to the starting line to hop into his Saleen to take on Ken Klingler in the finals of Ultra Stang. D’Amore’s 10.258 on a 10.15 doesn’t sound like it should have beaten Klingler’s 12.182 on a 12.09, but his .007 reaction time and .261 starting line advantage tilted the results into his favor for the win. Mod Comp saw another huge field as Howard Brewer ran a 10.942 on a 10.90 to knock off Bobby McMasters for the event win.
True Street, which remains year after year the most popular class at every Fun Ford event, saw an all-Virginia final as David Morrissette of Hopewell won over Steve Bolt of Farmville.Quick 8 eliminations saw the closest final of the day when Jacky McCarty’s 1991 Mustang used a slight .006 holeshot and a 10.093 at 134.82 mph to defeat Stephen Posenau’s oh-so-close 10.115 at 132.54 mph.
In ET Bracket action on Saturday, Shane Williams defeated Djason Roberts in Fast Ford while local driver Tracy Eubank knocked off Chris Parisi in Quick Ford. With Parisi’s record of success over the years, that was something of an upset. None of that mattered to Tom Brown, however, as he delegated Parisi to runner up status again when he defeated him in the Street Ford Finals. With $500 in his pocket from winning Gallop for the Gold earlier in the day, Brown was two for two in final rounds on just the first day of the weekend. Conrad’s streak continued on Sunday as he won Quick Ford & Street Ford over Steve Burke and Peter Del Pino respectively. Tony Rogers was the winner in Fast Ford over heavy hitter Danny Towe.
